Basic medical service acts as one of the safeguards for impoverished people to protect them from diseases that can easily drag them into plight, said Zha Yan, a senior doctor at the Guizhou People's Hospital and deputy to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), which is underway in Beijing.
Guizhou has established the nation's first government-managed remote-control medical system, which has connected to 1,836 hospitals across the province. In 2018, the system helped 236,000 patients and provided training courses for 154,000 distant medical workers.
While attending the national meeting, Zha expressed her hope for the expansion of the remote system, especially to hospitals in counties or areas below county level, so as to improve the level of medical treatment entirely in Guizhou.
"Basic medical service is an important part of poverty-relief and is a useful tool to narrow the gap of social welfare," she added.
