According to the Guizhou People's Government, a regulation on State-owned forest farms took effect on Jan 1, which will further enhance environmental protection in Southwest China's Guizhou province.

State-owned forest farms protect, cultivate, manage and utilize State-owned forest resources to provide people with natural products and services.

According to the regulation, discharging waste, construction/renovation, destruction of natural water systems, destruction of forests, hunting or collecting nationally protected animals or plants and other such activities are now forbidden in state-owned forest farms.

Located in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze and Pearl rivers, Guizhou is abundant in karst landforms and has a fragile natural environment. The State-owned forest farms serve as key ways of promoting the construction of an environmentally friendly society in Guizhou.

Guizhou currently has 105 State-owned forest farms covering an area of 370,000 hectares and with a forest stock of over 29.4 million cubic meters. Most of them were formed in the late 1950s.

High quality forest resources and a diverse array of flora and fauna serve as the foundation for sustainable forestry development in Guizhou.
