2017 in review: Guiyang released top 10 big data news of the year

2017 has been a massive year for big data in the city of Guiyang, capital of southeast China's Guizhou province.

Here are the top 10 biggest big data news stories from 2017, which was released by Guiyang Big Data Development Committee on Feb 22.

1. Clear targets are set to build the city into China's "digital valley".

The provincial capital announced on Nov 22, 2017 that it will increase its big data revenue to 100 billion yuan ($15 billion) by 2020, by establishing five basic projects and ten special projects.

In order to build the "digital valley" of China, Guiyang has also set goals to become home to more than 10,000 big data enterprises from both home and abroad by 2020.

2. Efforts in the integration of big data with real economy helped create an industrial cluster effect in the city.

Guiyang ranks first in Guizhou in regards to the integration of big data with real economy.

The municipal government licensed 16 big data enterprise agglomeration areas on Feb 8, 2017. An industrial cluster effect has been created.

3. Big data platform "Zhuminsheng" has turned on the "online mode" of public service for Guiyang citizens.

Zhumingsheng, a big data public service platform officially launched on Feb 27, 2017, has largely saved people's queuing time in Guiyang.

Some 180 kinds of public services, including social insurance, medical care, education, employment and community service, can be easily accessed on the platform.

4. Gui'an national-level backbone internet direct connection point was built and opened.

Gui'an national-level backbone internet direct connection point, the 13th of its kind in China, was opened for use in Gui'an New District, a national-level new urban district in Guizhou province, on June 16, 2017.

Due to the move, internet coverage of the mountainous province rose to 100 percent in 2017, largely improving its digital economy infrastructure.

5. Guiyang put forward China's first regulation on access to and sharing of government data.

A regulation on access to and sharing of government data, first of its kind in China, went into effect in Guiyang on May 1, 2017.

The legalization is expected to accelerate the digital economy, as well as help governments provide better services for the people.

Since the data sharing platform of Guiyang's government was launched on Jan 18, millions of pieces of data, covering dozens of government bodies, have been made open to the public.
