Residents living in Longhe village, Guizhou province, never need to worry about waiting in crowded hospitals to see a doctor when they are sick, because they have their own village physician to take care of them – Zhong Jing.

Zhong, a 34-year-old doctor, has spent the last eight years taking care of the villagers after quitted her job in Guiyang. She moved to the village with her husband but decided to stay behind when her husband had to transfer to another post in Xingyi, the capital city of Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture.

Noticing the villagers’ need, Zhong purchased physiotherapy instruments and opened her own clinic to provide medical care. Zhong visits each household at least once a week to give them medical advice and fill-out prescriptions.

Most of the village’s young people have moved to cities in order to earn a living, the left-behind children and elderly often lack care – Zhong’s clinic provides a much needed service.

As a way of saying thank you, many locals bring Zhong some homegrown vegetables to her clinic when they visit.
