Guizhou province plans to relocate some 752,000 residents currently living in poverty to better housing in 2017, according to the provincial government. Residents from 3,603 mountain villages will be moved to relatively prosperous towns with more job opportunities and better living conditions.

Guizhou is a key battleground for China’s current war on poverty. During the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), 6.56 million impoverished residents received aid in Guizhou, however, there are still more than 3.7 million impoverished residents in the province.

The government has made a commitment to relocate over 1 million impoverished residents in 2017.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, China has made great achievements in its war on poverty. China has assisted over 10 million impoverished residents in rural areas each year from 2013 to 2016.
