Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture in Southwest China’s Guizhou province will hold activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its establishment.

Officials announced at a conference on June 7 that a celebration ceremony will be held to mark the prefecture’s achievements over the past 60 years. A symposium and commendation conference will also take place to discuss the harmonious relationship between different ethnic groups.

The spectacle will include art performances from the 9th China Kaili Original Ecological Ethnic Cultural Tourism Festival, which will go ahead as scheduled.

Other celebratory activities will include trade talks, contract signing ceremonies and an achievements exhibition. Authorities hope the activities will showcase the prefecture’s fast-development and harmonious atmosphere.

Founded on July 23, 1956, the autonomous prefecture covers a ground of 30,300 square kilometers and is home to more than 30 ethnic groups. The prefecture contains the largest population of Miao and Dong ethnic people.

Through its 60 years development, the prefecture’s breathtaking scenic landscapes and exotic ethnic culture has come to the forefront of its economy, as it strives to develop its environment, culture, food, medicine, village infrastructure and tourism resources.
