Guizhou province's Kaili city signed agreements in Beijing in late May to boost tourism.

The agreements involved an investment of 12.5 billion yuan ($1.89 billion) between the city and six enterprises in Beijing, including the Beijing tourism chamber of commerce.

The money will help to develop the city's major scenic spots, such as Xiasi ancient town and Xianglu Mountain, as well as urban infrastructure. Qiandongnan will be developed into an ecological tourism destination.

Kaili sits in the southeast of Guizhou, populated by 33 minority ethnic groups that account for 75 percent of the local population of 1 million.

Ethnic Miao people are in the majority.

The region features abundant minority elements, green mountains, blue sky and clean land. Local traditional food has also earned raves from visitors.
