The city of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province is currently improving its free public WiFi service, known as "D-GuiYang", which has been covering nearly 70,000 people a day since it started up this past May, as a major part of the city's big data development strategy.

But it now covers more public WiFi users even though the Internet speeds seemed to be slower and connections were often lost especially in high-use areas. So, the local big-data center has done a lot of work to increase the speed of free public WiFi by improving some key equipment for signal-radiation and thunder-proofing.

After the improvements, now the WiFi is bringing higher speeds for thousands of network terminals and the second phrase of the "D-GuiYang" project got underway recently, with the goal of covering all the city's arterial traffic, its squares, business districts and its large hospitals by the end of this year.
