A joint research group, aiming to carry out research in the areas of processing technologies and raw material quality of China's aluminum electrolysis enterprises, is to be built. The agreement was made at a signing ceremony in Beijing on March 10.
The joint group will devote itself to improving energy reduction in China's aluminum smelting industry and enhance the efficiency of aluminum electrolysis enterprises to strengthen core competence.
"The productive capacity and product volume [in China] has led the world for many years in a row. As a country with the largest aluminum industry, China has introduced a series of policies to improve energy reduction in the aluminum smelting industry," said Huang Liangcheng, the general manager of GAMDRI.
In a sluggish aluminum market, reducing costs by improving efficiency - which can be achieved by reducing the cost of electricity - is a crucial method to enhance competitiveness within the industry.
The cooperation is expected to help with cost reduction to improve the competitive environment and upgrade and transform Guizhou's institutes and enterprises to overcome technological limitations.
"The aluminum project serves as the commencement of our worldwide cooperation on aluminum smelting technology," said Jonathan Low, general inspector of CSIRO's Mineral Resources Flagship.
The cooperation, organized by Guizhou Overseas Chinese federation, marks the first time for Guizhou to introduce foreign scientific institutes for technological cooperation and sets a precedence for technology cooperation between Guizhou and Australia.
