According to the press conference of the Eco Forum Global Conference Guiyang 2014 held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 4, Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao will attend the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference 2014. The news was announced by Hong Lei, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday. Hong also introduced general information regarding the conference.

The Eco Forum Global Conference is China's only national level conference focusing on ecology and environment. The conference is an international platform aimed at popularizing the philosophy of ecology, presenting the achievement of ecological construction and promoting the practice of ecological practices.

The conference provides a great opportunity to remind people of the importance of green development and ecological environment, as well as to call joint efforts to tackle climate change and protect global ecological security.

Guizhou province has a good foundation for ecological practices. Early in 1986, the State Council approved Bijie city of Guizhou province as a pilot zone for the research of poverty reduction, ecological construction and population control. In June this year, Guizhou province was honored with the title of National Ecological Environment Demonstration Area.

Zhang Xinsheng, secretary-general of the Eco Forum Global Conference Guiyang, said the conference is the first large-scale event that puts efforts on ecological systematic revolution, after the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, the Central Economic Working Conference and the Central Working Conference of Urbanization.

Zhang adds that the conference will be held in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, from July 10 to 12. The conference this year will set up as many as 40 sub-forums. Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome, Malta Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, President of the Council of States of Switzerland's Federal Assembly Hannes Germann, Russian Chief of Staff Sergei Ivanov, and Vanuatu Deputy Prime Minister Ham Lini will attend the conference.

The conference this year has also sent invitation letters to ambassadors to China of 23 countries, as well as to delegates of international organizations, including the United Nations Environment Programme, UNESCO and the International Telecommunication Union. More than 500 journalists and 1,000 guests will attend the event.

Two major agendas will appear in this year's conference: green transformation and green development. Around the two agendas, the conference will highlight the transformation and development of 10 industries: energy, energy conservation, sustainable finance, advanced manufacturing, green infrastructures and transportation, information, real state, green agriculture, medicine and green tourism. It will discuss three hot issues concerning people's lives: PM2.5, water and food security.
