More than 30 years of experience at working sites across the country has made truck driver Li Long become an amateur painter, ptnet.cn reported on April 13.

Li, 50, is now working at the Xiaolian Island in Pingtan county, Fujian province for the project of Fuzhou-Pingtan Railway. The Hubei native has engaged in many bridge projects since he entered the work place in 1983.

Li reveals that his biggest hobby is to sketch. The reason? Not because that he has a strong artistic sense, but simply to kill time.

“Drawing is an interesting thing. I spent half of my life at construction sites. It would be too boring if I don’t have something to do when free, especially now, as we proceed with all sorts activities on the island every day,” sai Li.

In the past year, Li has been responsible for carrying workers to different construction sites on the island. He also plays the role of engineering supervisor sometimes. Having witnessed the progress of the Pingtan Haixia Railroad Bridge, Li said the best way to keep the memory is to draw it .

“Whenever I am free I sit down to sketch. I don’t think too much about details, just paint freely.”

He also indicated that the Fuzhou-Pingtan Railway could be the last piece in his career.

“After the railway is completed, I will probably retire,. Then my drawings will be worth a lot I guess.”

The 16-km Pingtan Haixia Railroad Bridge, which connects Fujian's Pingtan and Changle counties, is part of the 88-km Fuzhou-Pingtan railway.

Construction of the Fuzhou-Pingtan Railway – between the capital city of Fuzhou and the island county of Pingtan – began on Oct 31, 2013.

The line stretches 88.4 kilometers, with a designed speed of 160 km per hour (Fuzhou-Fuzhou South) and 200 km per hour (Fuzhou South to Pingtan), a passenger capacity of 50 million and cargo capacity of 15 million tons every year.

The railway project – with a total accrued investment of 26.8 billion yuan ($4.4 billion) – is expected to take over five years.
