Authorities in Pingtan county of eastern Fujian province have pledged to complete a massive forestation target set by the provincial forestry department in 2013, which involved a greening and forestation plan concerning 2,840 hectares.

Li Dejin, director of the administrative committee of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, said on Feb 13 that the island county has made much progress in its greening efforts in the past few years, but that there are still issues that remain to be solved.

Li said that – if Pingtan wishes to meet the forestation goal - various government departments should formulate a strategy, improve planning and encourage public participation.

He also asked local landscape companies to enhance marketization and innovation, and to explore ways to minimize forestation costs.
