Fujian entrepreneurs stand out in philanthropy

Three of the country's top 10 philanthropists are from Fujian, the highest number among mainland provinces and municipalities, according to a recent survey by the Shanghai-based Hurun Report.

Hurun tracks the activities of the richest people in China.

Huang Rulun, chairman of Century Golden Resources Group, was ranked in sixth place, donating 281 million yuan ($45 million) in 2014.

Huang, 64, has made the list for 12 straight years. Hurun ranked him the 311th most wealthy person in the world with a fortune of 21.7 billion yuan.

The other two Fujianese to make the the top 10 are Xu Rongmao (No.7) and Chen Fashu (No.8), with donations of 197 billion yuan and 187 billion yuan, respectively.

Xu, 65, is the chairman of the Shanghai-based Shimao Property Holdings Ltd. 54-year-old Chen is board chairman of Newhuadu Industrial Group.

Nearly half of mainland's top 100 philanthropists are from Guangdong (19), Fujian (14) or Zhejiang (10).

The 100 philanthropists donated a total of 20.2 billion yuan last year, accounting for 1.5 percent of their total fortunes. 18 of them donated at least 100 million yuan.

The bottom threshold of the ranking is 12.2 million yuan.
