Pingnan awards educational workers

Pingnan county, in Fujian province, granted 1.7 million yuan ($273,000) on Jan 4 to outstanding schools and teachers, including Zhang Xiaofeng, a national model teacher, for their educational contributions.

Pingnan established an education foundation in December, 2012, to reward outstanding students, teachers and schools, and improve local educational facilities. The government allocated 4 million yuan as an initial fund, and the foundation also received social donations of more than 20 million yuan.

The bonuses, totaling 5.3 million yuan, has been offered to teachers and schools on three occasions.
