The Wan’an Bridge scenic area development project, with investment from Shanghai Kunda Investment Co Ltd reaching 500 million yuan ($82.3 million), is part of the emerging cultural tourism industry of Pingnan, Fujian province, and the scenic area’s investment framework agreement and overall tourism plans having been completed.

Pingnan, which was named a “Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art”, boasts many national-level cultural relics, 58 cultural relics protection spots above the county level and 63 intangible cultural relics above county level.

Pingnan is one of the 23 Fujian counties which receive provincial support, with many preferential policies aimed at achieving “historical” growth, including 22 cultural industrial projects - such as the Huizelong Min Yellow Wine Culture Expo Park – which have been completed.

The authorities are also planning a “Beautiful Water” project – a show with local characteristics – and they aim to create a distinctive identity for Pingnan, based on attractions including scenic spots like Wan’an Bridge and Qiancheng Bridge. Officials are also promoting cultural tourism in the villages of Jixia, Jitou, Shuangxi and Tangkou and the development plans having been completed, with a focus on environmental protection.
