Yongding makes list of China's Top 100 Tourism Competitiveness Counties

Youngding county, in Longyan, Fujian province, has earned a spot on the list of China's Top 100 Tourism Competitiveness Counties 2013.

It was ranked 73th on the list that included a total of 293 municipal administrative units and 1,289 county-level units – and it is the only county in Longyan city to be listed.

The selection was based on an evaluation of the tourism environment, resources and market, as well as management and innovation.

A total of 4 million people visited Yongding in 2012, and tourism revenue reached 2.8 billion yuan ($ 469 million). In the first eleven months of this year, the total tourism revenue reached more than 3 billion yuan, a year on year increase of 21.1 percent.

Youngding has abundant tourism resources and its more than 23,000 tulou are a UNESCO world cultural heritage. Tulou, or “earthen buildings,” refers to traditional communal homes in Fujian, which are usually circular or rectangular. It was also one of the 21 counties of the Central Soviet Base Area.
