Fujian embraces first new year's snow

Many mountainous areas in East China's Fujian province witnessed their first snow of the year on Jan 12, Southeast Express reported.

The snow started to fall at around 4 am, according to people in Jianning county, Sanming city.

As of Monday afternoon, the depth of the snow had reached 4 cm at high altitudes, which doesn't happen too often in Fujian, according to the meteorological authority.

It is also the first snow of the winter, which has come a little later then usual. It snowed on Jan 3 last winter.

Light snow or blizzards are expected to reach some parts of the cities of Nanping, Ningde and Sanming on Tuesday owing to a strong cold front.

Six ideal places in Fujian to admire snow scenes:

Mangdang Mountain in northwestern Nanping city. It has an average altitude of 828 m and peaks at 1,363 m.

Xiazhu township in Minqing county, Fuzhou city. It is the northernmost township in Fuzhou and has the highest snowfall rate.

Zhouning county in Ningde city. It is situated in the Jiufeng Mountain range. The downtown area has an altitude of 880 m, the highest among counties in Fujian.

Tongmuguan area in Wuyishan county. It is a tea plantation area in the far north of Fujian province, with an altitude of 1,000 m.

Guangze county in northwestern Fujian. The Wujun Mountain and Zhaili Reservoir are both great destinations to appreciate snow.

Jiuxian Mountain in Dehua county, Quanzhou. Its main peak reaches 1,658 m.
