Chapter III The Horn of Rebirth

This piece of land which is long benefited from rich inheritance has always refused to be mediocrity and always wanted to gain cultural renaissance.

In September 2006, the National "Eleventh Five-Year" Plan period of cultural development was launched to earmark building the Daming Palace Relics Protection and Demonstration Park.

In the same year, the State Cultural Relics Bureau and the Ministry of Finance jointly issued "The Overall Planning Blueprint of Key Cultural Relics Protection during the 11th Five-Year Plan Period" which listed the Daming Palace Relics Protection Project as the first batch of key projects.

The Daming Palace is expected to be preserved and protected on its ruins, like rebirth from its ashes.

Regeneration is only the process and its ultimate goal is to protect heritage, promote the culture, spread civilization and improve people’s living condition. Regeneration is only the expression and its principle is to protect history, highlight humanities, creating the future for the benefit of the people.

Three years have passed since the blueprint was launched while the archeology, planning, design, demolition and resettlement work were well organized and promoted.

"Charter of Machu Picchu," said: "The protection, restoration and re-use of existing historical sites and ancient buildings must be combined with the urban development process to ensure the economic sense of heritage and continues to have vitality."

Daming Palace Relics areas will be on display, which will be combined the site protection with improving surrounding environment, and promote the city’s overall image, and ensure the protection of the heritage merged into urban development. The protection project will let us know a new concept of relics protection and bring us back to the spiritual home of Chinese civilization.

Of course, large relics site protection remains a global difficult problem. It is still a long way to go in protected mode, route choice, technology use and cultural inheriting.

The Daming Palace protection and display project are trying to find an Orient Road in large site protection in the world.

This will be a paradigm to show how great site protect can promote urban development.

This will be a masterpiece which can resonate among people across the world.

This will be a marvelous answer to the questions posed by history and future of Xi'an.
