Overview of Expo Astana 2017

The theme of the 2017 Astana Expo is "Energy of the Future". The exposition will last three months, from June 10 to Sep 10.

With most attention on nuclear energy, the Expo is dedicated to popularizing the most effective and sustainable energy plans and to discussions of potential ways to exploit future energy.

It will also try to guide the exposition participants to regard the energy problem as a common and global issue, and to call on people to meet the challenges in developing the economy in a way that protects the environment.

In addition, it will call for individual responsibility to reach a balance between resources exploitation and sustainable development.

More than 100 countries,10 international organizations and about 5 million visitors are expected to attend the Expo, which will occupy 174 hectares, of which 25 will accommodate pavilions.

The host city Astana is called the heart of Eurasia. It's one of the youngest capitals in the world, and the most modernized city in Central Asia. Located in north-central Kazakhstan, over 1,300 kilometers away from the original capital Alma-Ata, Astana is a major center for Kazakhstan’s industry and agriculture, as well as a transportation hub for national railways. The Ishim River runs through the city, which features a pleasant climate and a favorable environment.

Over the past 13 years, Astana, once a town of 200,000 people, has become a modern metropolis reflecting the rapid development of the whole country.

Theme

The core concept of the 2017 Astana Expo is to ask people reflect on society and the world's economy and environment against the background of sustainable energy development.

This exposition is expected to draw the attention of international societies to energy issues. It will call for institutions, companies and individuals to take up their responsibilities to be aware of the decisive influence of energy management on human beings and the planet.

There are three sub themes of the Expo: "Reduction of Carbon Emissions", "Energy for Life" and "Energy for All".

The logo of the Expo is "Wind Energy", formed by three "As", just like the three leaves of a windmill, based on the initial letter of "Astana". Each leaf is made to suggest a pyramid, symbolizing knowledge and technology.
