"The Myth" takes 26.5 million at weekend box office



Hong Kong action star, Jackie Chan's "The Myth" topped last weekend box office, taking in 26.5 million yuan across the nation on its debut weekend.

The film received 8 million yuan in box office takings on its first day, the best takings for all the films in cinemas this year. It breaks the 7 million yuan debut day record that two films "Initial D" and "Seven Swords" set earlier this year. It is also the biggest success for a Jackie Chan film in recent years.  

Jackie Chan and the film's director, Stanley Tong, will stage a celebration for the movie in Guangzhou tonight.   

The film'spublicist, Yu Dong, said they are confident that the film will set a new box office record during the upcoming National Holiday.   

"The Myth" is a $20 million co-production of Chan's film company and the China Film Group Corporation.
