The experience starts from actually finding the place; it is an adventure if you are up for it. Once you enter the place, what you’ll find is an alluring mysterious darkness that awakens your senses with unfamiliar smell of peaceful space that’s rare in Beijing. Once seated, you will find you and your dining companions under the bright but gentle spotlight, which artfully gives the impression that you are all that matters. The Rock&Roll salad offered us the grandeurs and tone of the dishes to come, with the waitress serving the dish, tossing the salads in a large tube before emptying its content into a wooden bowl, which makes the ordinary salad less ordinary. Leaf wrapped sizzling beef flash cooked on a hot stone, not to be missed if you like to play with your food and want to control how well you like it. It is strong in flavor, best to be eaten with a bowl of fresh rice. Miso grilled cod was absolutely the star with its sweet tenderness and fragrances that lingers on your tongue and tempts you to grab for more. Just when you think you’ve been pleasantly surprised enough, along comes the green soba noodle served in a big ice ball bowl. It’s amazingly refreshing and perfect to end the meal. Oh, and don’t forget to take a picture, and don’t lick the bowl with your tongue …it is real ice. This is the place to WOW your guests and that special someone, if the food does not do it, you under the spot light would. The perfect ZEN escape from Beijing traffic.
