Roll out the red carpet

Beijing's newest club strives for cocktail perfection and comes as close to it as any other venue in Beijing. The invigorating taste of the Ginger Melon Martini (80 yuan) and the sweet raspberry flavor of the Klubb Rouge (80 yuan) are all mixed to perfection by the club’s impeccably trained bartenders. A custom line of espuma-based (a kind of frothy Champagne ice cream) cocktails, such as the Strawbellini, should be available by the time you read this. The gargantuan, 1500 sq. meter space in the penthouse of the China View building has the class, service and attention to detail characteristic of Shanghai’s most upscale cocktail lounges. Hot, red, hand-blown Italian glass shimmers on strings above a 14-meter long bar, candles flicker and house music booms from the club's Ohm sound system. But despite the beauty, Klubb Rouge maintains an edginess appropriate for Beijing’s urban malaise. Clubbers shuffle over raw cement floors; the black walls eschew the bubbly cheeriness of Shanghai’s Bar Rouge; and the vertiginous roof deck looks out on a gaping construction site.
