Guizhou, isolated from the rest of the world for centuries by its sunning mountainous terrain, remains one of China's most unspoiled provinces. It is one of Chinas lesser known provinces and best kept secrets, opened to tourists in the late 1980s. It is officially made up of four prefectures, two autonomous prefectures, three cities under provincial administration, and the capital city is Guiyang.

Guizhou's History

Guizhou is the birthplace of mountain culture represented by Yelang culture, and one of the birthplaces of the pre-history civilizations of mankind. With all the cultural elements of different periods and regions, it is the Grand View Garden of colorful cultures. Guizhou is a province where is the Red Army stayed for the longest time, had the longest battlefront, and left the most historic sites during the Long March over 70 years ago, hence Guizhou occupies an irreplaceable position for learning the modern history of China.

Guizhou's Culture

Guizhou is a multicultural province with the fifth largest ethnic population in China. It has a population of 39.59 million, of which the 17 ethnic minorities that have lived in here for generations. The variety of ethnic groups make up 39 per cent of the whole population. While the majority Han cluster mainly in the province's cities, communities of Miao, Bouyi,Dong,Yi, Shui,Hui, Zhuang, Tujia, Gelao and Gejia populate the more remote villages. A major charm of the province for travelers is the number of festivals, resplendent with colour and suffused with music, that take place throughout the year and that remain an important part of continuing traditional lifestyles and customs.

There are 228 star-rated hotels (including over 20 five-and four-star hotels) have been set up, as well as over 180 international and domestic travel services, and over 860 tourism-related automobiles. In a world, the main elements of tourism in Guizhou, including "transportation, sightseeing, accommodation, food, shopping and recreation," have been basically perfected, and the comprehensive reception abilities have been improved remarkably.
