Police nab knife attack suspect

ZHENGZHOU - Police in Central China's Henan province on Tuesday caught a man suspected of killing three and injuring 12 others in a knife attack on a bus.

The suspect was identified as a native of Anyang city, where the attack happened on Monday. Police said the man, surnamed Zhou, is 24 years old.

No details on the capture of Zhou is immediately available.

Police had previously offered an award of 100,000 yuan ($16,000) for tips leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The government of Anyang City confirmed on Tuesday that the three victims who died in the attack were all children, the youngest of whom was a 10-month-old baby girl. The other victims killed in the attack were two boys, aged 10 and 18.

They were among 15 passengers assaulted by the knife-wielding man on a bus en route to Beiguo township, Anyang county on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 3:05 pm Monday, when 33 passengers were on the bus.

Two of the victims died on the way to the hospital.

More than 400 policemen were sent to search for the suspect on Monday. According to witnesses, the attacker was a man of 1.65 meters tall with crew cut hair.

He allegedly escaped into a nearby cornfield after forcing the driver to stop the bus.

Sources from the Anyang City People's Hospital and the Anyang County No 2 People's Hospital said victims ranging in age from 18 to 67 remain in treatment.
