WUHAN - A woman has been arrested for claiming that police fired their weapons at a tourist site in central China's Hubei Province, local police said on Wednesday.

The police said they will deal with the woman according to relevant laws.

The woman, surnamed Feng, wrote on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, that she saw police officers fire their weapons three times in order to impose order at a rafting area.

"The shootings caused a stampede and one man was critically injured," she wrote.

Police in the city of Yichang, where the rafting area is located, subsequently arrested Feng for fabricating rumors in the city of Wuhan on Tuesday.

Feng said she wrote the post because she was upset about having to wait in a long line in the summer heat during her visit to the rafting area. She said she regretted writing the post and has since deleted it, as well as changed her username.

Police in Yichang said Feng's post had a negative effect on society, adding that she will be seriously punished.
