Wen arrives in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Wednesday afternoon to attend the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20 summit).

In a speech delivered at the airport, Wen said that China and Brazil have witnessed an all-round and rapid development of bilateral ties since they established diplomatic ties 38 years ago.

The two sides have maintained frequent high-level contacts, achieved fruitful results in cooperation in various fields, and kept close coordination and cooperation on major international issues, he said.

In the context of a world undergoing massive, deep and complicated  changes, China and Brazil, as two major developing countries with great influence, should strengthen cooperation, which is in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples and is conducive to enhancing cooperation and solidarity among developing countries, Wen said.

Noting his visit to Brazil is aimed at enhancing mutual trust, broadening consensus and deepening cooperation, Premier Wen also expressed his belief that the visit will promote bilateral ties to a higher level.
