BEIJING - A recent survey conducted by the All-China Women's Federation indicates that 85 percent of Chinese support legislation against domestic violence, an issue that has drawn wide concern in recent years.

Some 86 percent of the survey's respondents said they believe domestic violence should be considered illegal, while just 4.6 percent do not think the behavior should be unlawful, according to survey results released Tuesday by the All-China Women's Federation.

The telephone survey was conducted starting from the end of last year, with 1,025 randomly selected respondents from 20 provincial-level regions surveyed. Females accounted for 58.8 percent of the surveyed group and males 41.2 percent.
