Urumqi - Xinjiang has implemented comprehensive measures to ensure maximum safety and security for the first China-Eurasia Expo to be held in Urumqi, capital of the northwest autonomous region, the organizer said.

Adijen Dudt, the deputy director of Xinjiang's International Expo Bureau, said the safety measures include risk assessment and background checks as well as security near the convention center.

He also said security equipment and a command system have also been upgraded. The undergoing auto expo in the convention center also aimed to test the preparedness, such as the water, electricity supply and emergency management.

In June, Xinjiang announced it will establish a three-dimension safety command system – safety for Xinjiang, safety for Urumqi, and safety for the expo venues. It will also draw experiences from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Shanghai World Expo 2010, and Guangzhou 2010 Asia Games.

The expo was upgraded from the China Urumqi Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Fair and will be held from Sept 1 to 5 in the newly built International Convention Center. Besides domestic enterprises, 30 countries and regions will participate the expo.

The truss string structure is 486 meters long and 130.5 meters wide, with a span of 108 meters. It has eight inner exhibition halls with a total area of 42,000 square meters, and 30,000 sq m of outer exhibition area. Xinjiang, which shares its borders with eight countries, aims to become a forerunner of China's westward opening and wants to develop the center into a world-class venue for various trade events and shows.

The layout was inspired by a poem by Li Bai (AD 701 - 762) and symbolizes a full moon rising from the rolling Tianshan Mountains, said designer Liu Wenlu, the Director of the 5th Design Institute of the Wuhan Architectural Design Institute.

"The design also expresses our hope for Xinjiang's economy to prosper," Liu said.
