Two rescued from collapsed Nairobi building as search continues for missing
Two additional excavators were deployed on Saturday to accelerate the removal of debris as anxious relatives gathered near the site, hoping for news of their loved ones.
The operation was temporarily paused on Saturday to allow rescue teams to assess the building's stability and establish safe access routes to the lower sections of the structure.
Peter Murgor, the Kenya Red Cross disaster risk reduction manager, appealed for calm as responders worked to determine how best to reach people believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
The National Disaster Management Unit said rescue teams were cutting through reinforced concrete slabs as they sought to access the affected areas.
The collapse occurred on Friday along 9th Street in Eastleigh, leaving families scrambling to establish the whereabouts of relatives who had been in the building.
