China sees over 2 billion cross-regional passenger trips during holiday

China recorded 2.14 billion cross-regional passenger trips during the National Day holiday from Oct 1 to Oct 7, with average daily rail journeys rising 12.7 percent, according to the Ministry of Transport on Thursday. 

The daily average across all modes of transport reached 306 million trips, up 0.6 percent compared with the eight-day combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday in 2025.

Railways handled 151.87 million passenger trips over the seven days, averaging 21.7 million a day.

Road travel accounted for the largest share, with 1.96 billion trips, or a daily average of 280.26 million.

Waterways carried 10.93 million passengers, averaging 1.56 million a day, up 7.1 percent year-on-year. Civil aviation handled 16.92 million passenger trips, with the daily average of 2.42 million broadly unchanged from last year.
