Former Shanxi legislator expelled from CPC for severe disciplinary violations

Yue Puyu, a former senior legislator from Shanxi province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for severe violations of Party discipline and national laws, as announced by China's top anti-corruption watchdogs on Wednesday.

According to a statement by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, Yue violated the eight-point code on improving conduct by improperly accepting banquets and travel arrangements.

The investigation revealed that Yue failed to report personal matters as required and illegally sought benefits for others in official personnel appointments and promotions. He accepted monetary gifts, interfered in market economic activities, and engaged in power-for-money deals. Additionally, he used his positions to help others gain undue advantages in coal resource allocation, construction project awards, and equipment purchases.

The decision to expel Yue from the CPC was made due to his serious violations of Party discipline and duty-related breaches. His suspected crimes have been transferred to prosecutors for further review, along with the assets involved.

Public records indicate that the 66-year-old Shanxi native began his career in June 1982 and joined the CPC in September 1985. He held various positions in his hometown, including chairman of Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co., Ltd and mayor of Linfen, before serving as deputy head of the standing committee of the provincial people's congress in January 2020. Yue was placed under investigation in March.
