FAW develops EV roof with perovskite solar cells for charging in sunlight

Perovskite solar cells are seen as a potential alternative or complement to conventional silicon technology. They can be made thin and lightweight to be incorporated into flexible or curved surfaces, making them potentially well suited to vehicles.
However, long-term durability remains a major obstacle to wider commercial use. Perovskite cells can degrade when exposed to moisture, oxygen, heat, and ultraviolet radiation, placing particular demands on sealing, efficiency, and reliability in automotive applications.
FAW said it worked with research institutes and industry partners to develop flexible modules and encapsulation techniques that allowed the cells to be fitted to the curved glass roof.
