Under the guidance of an Olympic medalist and offering invaluable exposure to the professional circuit, the Junior Charity Classic golf tournament has teed-off a five-year commitment to building the sport’s future with its successful debut in Shanghai last week.

Sponsored by Lenovo ThinkBook, the maiden tournament, which featured a 108-player field, concluded its three-day, 54-hole stroke play on Friday at the Enhance Anting Golf Club in Shanghai, where the tournament will be held annually through 2030.

Co-founded by Olympic women’s individual stroke play bronze medalist Lin Xiyu and sports marketing professional Smile Xu, the championship was organized by THE SPIN Sports Education Foundation and The CJ Wang Foundation.

With its competition operated by Miles Group (Shanghai) Culture Communication Co Ltd, the tournament has earned official recognition by both the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS), offering young golfers valuable ranking points that it is hoped will tempt college recruiters and international talent scouts.

On top of the tournament’s professional organization, charitable initiatives and fun atmosphere, top finishers were awarded automatic berths at two prestigious American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournaments next month, opening critical pathways to elite international eventsfor China’s young talent.

In the boys’ division on Friday, 16-year-old Zhang Yuke, a high-school student from Qingdao, mounted an impressive comeback as he overcame a six-stroke deficit at the start of his final round to sign off with a total 4-under-par 212 to win the inaugural championship. Dong Antong finished runner-up after posting three consecutive rounds of 71, while Lu completed the tournament in third place at 214.

The girls’ competition ended up being an equally intriguing battle, as 14-year-old prodigy Jiang Yuyuan delivered a remarkable performance to claim the championship. After holding the first-round lead, but later surrendering her advantage due to heat stroke during the second round, Jiang began the final day two shots behind the leader. She responded with an outstanding seven-birdie performance and a final-round 66 to finish atop the field at 10-under-par 206.
