Panda monitoring network rolled out in Sichuan
An intelligent ecological monitoring network, featuring hundreds of infrared cameras capable of capturing and analyzing traces of wild animals, now covers 90 percent of the targeted areas within the Giant Panda National Park in Yingjing county, Sichuan province, according to a park employee.
Yingjing county serves as the southern gateway to the Giant Panda National Park that spans the three provinces of Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi. A total of 836 square kilometers, or 47 percent of the county's land area, has been designated as part of the park, and 28 wild giant pandas, along with a variety of other wild animals, are known to inhabit the area.
To collect more accurate and efficient datasets to facilitate scientific research and ecological protection, park officials have established an integrated space-air-ground monitoring system for the region, which was put into trial operation in October.
