Teen killed in waterfall swing accident at Sichuan adventure park

A 16-year-old girl was killed in a ride accident on Sunday afternoon in Huaying, Sichuan province, local authorities said.

The victim, surnamed Liu, was injured while riding the waterfall swing at Maliuyan Adventure Park. She died on the way to the hospital, according to a statement released on Tuesday by an investigation team set up by the Huaying government.

A preliminary investigation identified the incident as a work safety accident. The park has been closed for rectification, and the responsible entities and individuals are under further investigation, the statement said.

Local public security authorities told China News Week on Wednesday that police had launched an investigation but declined to provide further details.

A local official also told China News Week that no similar accident had occurred at the attraction before.

The park operator had reached a compensation agreement with the victim's family, the official added.
