BEIJING - A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that China opposes official interactions and military ties between the United States and China's Taiwan region, and this position is consistent.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a daily press briefing, in response to a query about the statement by the US side that it welcomes a military spending plan amounting to $40 billion announced by the Taiwan region.
The Democratic Progressive Party authorities will not succeed in resisting reunification and seeking "independence" through military buildup, she added.
