John Ololtuaa, Kenya's principal secretary for Tourism said: "This is the first time Africa is hosting the Chinese Cuisine Championship, and we are proud that Kenya Utalii College has been chosen," he said. "It is an opportunity to see cultures converge and for our chefs to learn new techniques, exchange ideas, and build partnerships with institutions in China."

Ololtuaa added that gastronomy tourism is emerging as a powerful force worldwide, and Kenya — already known for its wildlife and scenic beauty — is well placed to integrate culinary experiences into its tourism appeal.

Mark Ogendi, Kenya's Utalii College principal and CEO, said hosting the event underscores the college's role in nurturing international cooperation and skill development.

"This competition brings China to Africa in a unique and engaging way," he said. "It opens doors for exchange programs and collaborative training with Chinese institutions while inspiring our students to innovate and excel in global cuisine."

Chef Millicent Onditi, a culinary professional and one of the event's judges, described the championship as a milestone for culinary education in Kenya.

"Our students are learning directly from world-class chefs. We hope to integrate Chinese cuisine more deeply into our training programs," she said.

Guo Haiyan, Chinese ambassador to Kenya, commended the championship for promoting mutual learning and friendship. "This event strengthens exchanges between China and Africa and showcases the charm and diversity of Chinese cuisine," she said.

"I believe this event will foster learning and mutual inspiration, allowing exchanges and cooperation in the catering industry between China and Africa to glow even more brightly on the African continent," she added.
