Kim oversees testing of defense missiles
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Saturday test-fired two improved types of new air defense missiles in a bid to examine their combat capabilities, with Kim Jongun, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, overseeing the event, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Sunday. The new air defense missile weapon systems demonstrated superior combat capabilities of fast response to various aerial targets, such as attack drones and cruise missiles, KCNA reported.

Pentagon eyes military deployment in Chicago
The Pentagon is working on plans to deploy the US military to Chicago as President Donald Trump says he is cracking down on crime, homelessness and undocumented immigration, the Washington Post reported on Saturday. The Defense Department's planning, in the works for weeks, involves several options, including mobilizing at least a few thousand members of the National Guard as soon as September, the Post reported, citing officials familiar with the matter.

Prosecutors seek arrest of ex-PM Han
The Republic of Korea's prosecutors on Sunday filed an arrest warrant for former prime minister Han Duck-soo, accusing him of aiding former president Yoon Suk-yeol in declaring martial law in December and later lying in court. A court is set to review the validity of the warrant to detain the 76-year-old career bureaucrat in the coming days. If approved, it would be the first time in the country's history that both a former president and a prime minister are imprisoned.
