Opera brings Song-era splendor to modern stage

"The Song Dynasty stands out in the long history of China for its unique aesthetic style. Its poetry, calligraphy, painting, and folk customs have profoundly influenced later artistic creation," said Zhao Lei, Party secretary of Shanghai Opera House.

"The new opera, set in the Song Dynasty, not only showcases 'women power' but also artistically extends music, stage design, costumes, and makeup from the aesthetics of the Song Dynasty. It allows the audience to experience traditional Chinese beauty through the performing arts."
