Beijing issues geological disaster warnings and flood control responses

Beijing authorities have issued an orange alert, the second-highest level for geological disaster risks, and some districts have activated the top level emergency response for flood control.

The warnings come amid forecasts of rainfall exceeding 200 mm in some areas between 6 pm Monday and 5 am Tuesday, potentially triggering landslides, collapses, and debris flows. The alert, issued jointly by the Beijing Commission of Planning and Natural Resources and the Beijing Meteorological Service, covers several mountainous and flood-prone districts, including Fangshan, Mentougou, and Huairou.

Red alerts for rainfall, the highest in China's four-tier warning system, were activated for parts of the city earlier in the day. Officials have also issued yellow and blue alerts for additional regions, indicating a wider scope of risk.

In response, Beijing has mobilized its full flood control mechanism. Several northern districts, including Yanqing, Huairou, and Miyun, have declared top-level emergencies, and non-essential work in high-risk zones has been suspended, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Authorities continue to monitor conditions closely as the capital braces for another round of intense summer storms.
