Xi congratulates Algerian leader on reelection

President Xi Jinping sent a message on Wednesday to Abdelmadjid Tebboune, congratulating him on his reelection as Algerian president.

Noting that China and Algeria enjoy a traditional friendship, Xi said that bilateral ties have developed rapidly in recent years, yielding fruitful results in various fields.

The two countries have carried out close coordination and cooperation in international affairs, and their traditional friendship has continued to deepen, Xi added.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Algeria.

Xi said he attaches great importance to the development of the bilateral relationship and is willing to work together with his Algerian counterpart to further enhance political mutual trust and expand and deepen practical cooperation to explore broader prospects for friendly cooperation.

Tebboune, 78, first took office in 2019 and was reelected for a second term on Sunday.

Vice-premier highlights key role of IP in advancing BRI

Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang hailed on Wednesday the significant achievements in intellectual property cooperation between China and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, calling for efforts to jointly protect IP rights at a higher level.

Ding, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remark at the Third Belt and Road High-level Conference on Intellectual Property, which was held in Beijing.

He underscored the crucial role of IP in advancing the initiative, saying that joint efforts should be made to promote high-quality IP protection, improve the quality and efficiency of IP applications, and strengthen the fight against IP infringements, in order to foster a sound environment for innovators.

Expressing China's willingness to help all parties involved in the BRI with the comprehensive utilization of patents, trademarks, geographical indications and copyrights, he added that China is ready to join hands with them to facilitate the effective global governance of IP rights.
