Former Jiangxi township Party chief expelled from CPC
Li Peixia, the former Party chief of a township in Shangrao, Jiangxi province, was expelled from the Communist Party of China and the government, as announced by the city's anti-graft bodies on Sunday.
Her illicit gains were confiscated, and her alleged criminal problems were transferred to the procuratorial authorities, along with the associated properties, as released by Shangrao Qingfeng, the official WeChat account of the city's commission for discipline inspection and supervision.
It said that Wannian county's commission for discipline inspection and supervision initiated an investigation into Li, former Party chief of Shangfang township and a former member of the county's Party committee.
Following the investigation, it found that Li engaged in profiting from undertaking engineering projects within her jurisdiction and leveraging her official position to benefit others in project contracting and fund disbursement, as well as unlawfully accepting goods and money.
The report stated that Li's actions violated Party discipline, constituted serious illegal activities of post and involved suspected bribery crimes, and should receive strict disciplinary measures.
Li, 41, gained widespread attention after her father posted a short video online on July 25 claiming that she had a dispute with her superior, Wannian county's Party chief Mao Qi. According to the video, Li had threatened to report Mao to the provincial discipline inspection commission. However, three days after making the threat, she was taken away by the county discipline inspection commission and remained in detention for investigation.
The day after the video was posted, the Jiangxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection announced on its website that Mao was suspected of seriously violating Party discipline and the law. The commission said that Mao had voluntarily confessed and was undergoing disciplinary review and investigation.
According to a briefing released by the joint investigation team of the Shangrao municipal Party committee on Sunday, it has been discovered through the investigation that Mao used his authority to influence an inappropriate relationship with Li. Li, in turn, violated personal conduct rules in pursuit of job adjustments and promotions.
It released that the Jiangxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision is currently conducting a review and investigation into Mao's suspected disciplinary and legal violations.
