Woman fined after English outburst at train staff
A Chinese woman has been fined and required to issue a written apology after verbally abusing train staff in English on a high-speed train from Shanghai to Xi'an recently, the Xi'an railway authority reported.
The passenger, identified by her surname Wang, refused to cooperate with a routine ticket inspection on the G1920 train on July 4. According to the railway authority's statement, Wang did not show any identification documents as required and verbally abused the train staff in English, disrupting the normal travel order.
Videos circulating online showed Wang refusing to give her ID card to a train conductor for ticket inspection. She repeatedly berated him in English, calling him "garbage" and telling him to "go away" and "shut up." She also ignored his request to apologize to a female attendant who was brought to tears by the verbal attack.
A witness said the incident escalated when the female attendant returned to check Wang's ticket after initially trying to do so while Wang was in the bathroom, leaving her daughter alone in the seat. Upon the attendant's return, Wang lost her temper and verbally abused the attendant, according to the witness.
In response to the incident, the railway authority urged passengers to comply with laws, regulations, and railway-related rules, maintaining civilized behavior and language to create a warm, orderly, and harmonious travel environment.
