Chinese mainland has 3,117 institutions of higher learning

BEIJING -- The latest list released by China's Ministry of Education shows that the Chinese mainland has 3,117 universities, colleges, and other institutions of higher learning.

According to the list released by the ministry on Friday, as of June 20, the mainland had 1,308 universities and colleges and 1,560 vocational and technical colleges, increasing by 33 and 15, respectively, from the numbers recorded last year.

There are also 249 adult higher education institutions on the mainland, according to the list.
