Heavy rainfall leaves four dead in Fujian
Four people were killed in the recent round of heavy rainfall in Shanghang county of Longyan, Fujian province, according to the county's flood control and drought relief headquarters on Tuesday.
The 24-hour rainstorm from Sunday to Monday broke historical records, it said.
As of 8 pm on Monday, 66,498 people in 15 townships in Shanghang have been affected, and the affected areas are still without fully restored communication, electricity and other basic infrastructure.
Some areas still face the risk of secondary landslides, posing significant challenges to accurate assessment of the situation, as well as search and rescue of missing or trapped individuals, according to the headquarters.
Currently, local authorities are intensifying efforts to repair infrastructure, assess affected individuals, collapsed houses, landslides and other situations.
It is also accelerating the restoration of production and living order for the disaster-affected population.
