Crackdowns in Beijing's Yanqing decreases telecom fraud

Thanks to intensive crackdowns on telecom scammers, the number of such cases in Beijing's Yanqing district has dropped 43.1 percent year-on-year since the beginning of this year, according to the district's police.

The economic losses due to telecom fraud have also decreased 31.2 percent year-on-year, Liu Huajie, an official from the Beijing Public Security Bureau's Yanqing branch, told a news conference on Friday.

He said that the declines in data should attribute to the police's efforts in improving fraud warning capabilities, as well as stronger cooperation with banks and technology enterprises.

Meanwhile, the district's police have also endeavored to fight violent crimes, with greater attention to solving minor offenses that are frequently complained against by residents, he said.

For example, the police have recently solved a murder case that happened in the district in 2004, and captured the suspect surnamed Wu, who fled for 20 years, after investigation and evidence collection in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Tianjin and Hebei province, he added.

"What we've done is to respond the public concern in a timely manner and provide a safer environment for the capital's residents, as every police officer must be loyal to the Communist Party of China, to the people and hold the obligation to maintain social stability," he emphasized.

In addition, the district's police have attached more importance to cracking down on crimes against the environment, with criminal detention of 57 people suspected of damaging forests and wild animals since the start of this year, according to him.

On Friday, the police from Xicheng district also introduced their measures, such as intensified patrols, efficient services and quick emergency response, to secure the downtown city, pledging to continue strong determination and strength to keep the city safe and serve its people.
