Ship collision: 6 bodies found in cabin
Six bodies were found in a sunken ship's cabin early on Wednesday, in the aftermath of a collision involving a commercial fishing boat and a container ship in waters southwest of Hainan Island a week ago.
The provincial maritime search and rescue center mobilized a team of 19 ships and a rescue helicopter on Tuesday to conduct thorough surface and air searches in the area, about 111 kilometers west of Sanya port.
In addition, professional teams being coordinated for underwater operations found six victims in the ship's cabin.
The Panamanian container ship — the "SITC DANANG" — collided with the fishing boat "Yuenan Aoyu 36062" just after midnight on April 3 about 111 kilometers west of Sanya port, the fishing boat sank. Eight people who were on board were thrown into the water and lost contact. Two are still missing.
The sunken vessel was located on Saturday, partly with the use of underwater robot technology and a remote-controlled submersible.
