Shanghai teacher suspended after inappropriate relationship with student

A high school teacher who was allegedly having an affair with a 16-year-old student was suspended from work, as announced by the school and local bureau of education on Monday.

Several WeChat conversation screenshots between the teacher from Shanghai No 2 High School and a male student in her class were exposed online on Friday by the teacher's husband. Those screenshots, showing an improper relationship between the two, have attracted widespread attention on social media and became the mostly searched topic online over the weekend.

The school issued an announcement on its official website, saying it attached great importance to this incident and immediately began to conduct investigation with relevant departments. The teacher was immediately suspended from work.

The school says that it would take the investigation results seriously according to relevant laws and regulations.

Xuhui District education bureau responded to media that the matter is currently under investigation.
