Staff at the Guangzhou Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, prepared Winter Solstice meals for its giant pandas, black spider monkeys, and other animals to celebrate the arrival of the traditional Chinese solar term.

The park is home to the world's only panda triplets. They were treated to traditional dumplings and glutinous rice balls. The jiaozi were filled with bamboo and carrots.

The black spider monkeys feasted on apples, bananas, carrots and red dates.

At an ocean park in Zhuhai, Guangdong, staff served penguins fish in hot pot stoves made of crystal ice.

The Winter Solstice, the 22nd traditional Chinese solar term of the year, falls on Friday.

To cope with cold waves, which have swept through Guangdong for days, conservationists at the Guangzhou-based safari park have prepared dietary supplements for animals to improve their ability to keep their bodies warm.

Based on animals' dietary habits, the safari park began to plan and adjust the animals' dietary structure a month ago by increasing the supply of high-calorie foods to boost animal fat reserves.
