Fuzhou hosts genealogical record exhibition bridging Fujian and Taiwan

A genealogical record exhibition is being organized in Fuzhou, Fujian province, to tell family histories of people from Fujian and Taiwan and to reveal their connections.
The six-month event, which started in early December, exhibits genealogy books of major surnames involving the two regions, to examine the family lineages of specific modern and contemporary figures in Taiwan. The genealogy books were made using a movable-type printing technique.
Related activities about family lineages aimed to tell the stories of Fujian and Taiwan being the same family and to explore the traditional culture of China, said Chen Qiuping, head of the Institute of Fujian and Taiwan History and Cultural Research, and an organizer of the event.

About 10,000 electronic documents of family pedigrees from Taiwan's Surname Research Society were donated to the institute.
The documents were made through interviews and investigations dating back to the 1980s to promote communications, Chen Mei-kuei, a counselor of the society, told China News Service. "I hope when Taiwan compatriots come to Fujian to trace their roots, they can find more evidence," Chen added.
